In cases of sickness the National Health Insurance is supplemented by an additional payment of half wages by the firm, this allowance being subject to revision every four weeks. A non-contributory special aid fund assists by grants and loans any cases of distress other than illness.
A dental clinic is fitted with the latest appliances, all conservative work and extractions being carried out free of charge, including the services of a qualified anesthetist for gas cases.

Pension and Thrift Schemes
After working days are over the problems of old age are taken care of by a contributory Pension Fund, by means of which a man can retire on a pension on reaching the age of sixty five years, his wife and young children also being safeguarded in the meantime.
Pensions for women employees are given at the age of fifty five
years.
A Holiday Savings Fund takes care of extra expenses which come with summer holidays, when all employees of over twelve months' service receive a week and upwards on full wages, whilst a further incentive to thrift is to be found in the Long Service Grants.

Fire Protection
The large quantities of Turpentine and Wax that are stored and in daily use throw a great responsibility on our very efficient Fire Brigade, which is equipped with all the latest appliances, which, in addition to the motor fire engine, include smoke helmets and a large chemical pump for use on burning oil or spirit. Chemical extinguishers are placed in prominent positions, and hydrants are so located as to cover all sections with ease. The brigade has, on request, rendered valuable assistance outside in cases of very large fires.

Transport
Safe and efficient transport of our raw materials has also to be considered, and the accompanying illustration shows one of the large tank wagons, with a carrying capacity of 11 tons, which is used to convey turpentine from the docks to our factories.

Laboratories
The Boot and Floor Polishes and Creams manufactured at Chiswick are all mixtures of the most suitable Waxes with Turpentine and Spirit as solvents, the raw materials being specially selected and so prepared as to give the best possible protection and polish to leather, various kinds of wood, etc.

This entails a considerable amount of research work, and so great is the importance attached to maintaining a very high and uniform quality in our Polishes that a large staff of chemists is employed in examining raw materials and controlling the whole process of manufacture.
Space does not permit us to deal at length with the many processes of Printing, Tin Box making, Cardboard Box making, and the manufacture of the Polishes rather have we tried to tell you something of our aims and achievements, knowing that whilst we are continuously striving to improve, we still fall short of our ideals.
